I shot several images at a variety of sensitivity settings, including all the way up to ISO 204,800. Even on the small 3.2″ LCD, it’s easy to tell that these ISO 204,800 images look like crap. I can’t see where they would be usable in any circumstances – just tons of mush and chroma noise.

Back it down to ISO 12,800 and you’ve got another story. I shot a few frames at ISO 12,800 that looked clean at first glance. I zoomed the image into 100% and, sure, there’s noise there, but it’s mostly fine grain luma noise with just a hint of chroma noise mixed in. It looks like Canon has nailed the noise control on the 1D X though, because ISO 12,800 may become the new ISO 3200.

That’s a big judgement to make from looking at the back of camera’s LCD; however, you know how you develop a sense of what the final image looks like based on chimping, particularly when you zoom in to 100% to check for focus and noise issues…

en aparté, "en face" dans le forum "tous réflex" il y a un bel (amha) article comparatif entre le canon 7D et le pentax K5,
quel rapport direz-vous ? simplement c'est une analyse assez fouillée de la façon dont canon traite les images pour qu'elles aient l'air plutôt piquées même à hauts isos (quitte à conserver quelques défauts) alors que pentax se dépatouille très bien du bruit et autres artéfacts, en sera-t-il de même pour ce canon qui, comme le 7D s'adresse à des spécialistes?

Il s'adresse surtout à des professionnels qui n'iront jamais lire ce genre de comparatif et qui se fichent de la façon dont Canon triture les informations...

"When I read about the 12fps performance of this camera I was excited [...] but I was also worried as my 10fps performance of the 1D Mark III & IV has always been significantly limited by its puny buffer. In my early testing with what I was told was a slow CF card, I was able to get 52 full-size RAW frames in burst mode before the buffer started to stutter.

De l'interview des concepteurs du 1D X, il ressort qu'il y a peu de chances qu'un 24x36 plus pixellisé voit le jour prochainement :

"While we hear the voices, we want to see what the actual sales numbers will be for the 1D X and so determine how many 10,000s of customers we might be losing if we do not introduce a higher resolution camera and if the projected profitability of a higher resolution 24x36 mm format camera will justify development, marketing, and manufacturing investments , or if there is a sustainable market for the even greater costs of development, marketing, and manufacturing medium format cameras and lenses - an area where we have no internal expertise."
